The Fundraising Events So Far

Llandogo Village Car Wash

Llandogo had organised a car wash to raise money for DEC. Kelvin saw the event advertised, telephone the organiser and was asked to give a brief talk about his and Sally ’s his experience of Boxing Day.

A cold winter morning at the Millennium Village Hall was the venue and over 300 cars were washed at £5 per car. In fact some people during busy periods paid the money and then had to wash their own cars. Brilliant. Cakes biscuits other goodies tea and coffee were on sale and nearly £2000 raised.

A few days after Kelvin received a telephone call and was told that following his talk it had been agreed by the organisers that £800 should be donated to the Wye Valley Tsunami Fund. Must have been some talk, the fund was up and running.

Promises Auction in Whitebrook Village Hall

A great idea put forward by friends in the village of Whitebrook . Promises pledged for the auction included 2 bags of donkey manure, a flight for two over the beautiful Wye Valley , a track day in a Porsche 911, the services of Whitebrook s answer to Kim & Aggie the house dirt busters. Food was provided, together with a bar. The auction was carried out by a professional Auctioneer who donated his services free or charge and with great aplomb sold all 84 lots and extracted the huge sums of money from the generous bidders. A fun filled evening enjoyed by all raised over £5500.

Whitebrook Car Wash

A very enterprising young man helped by his family staged a one day car wash in his family drive way and raised £90.00 for the fund. A tremendous effort.

Asian Evening Dinner and Bollywood film in Llandogo

The sell-out crowd feasted on Papadums and Gado Gado salad, Sri Lankan Beef, Green Thai Curry, Indian Aloo Gobi , Indonesian Chicken, Pilau Rice, and finished with a spiced fruit salad. Llandogo's old cookery club and friends reformed prepared, cooked and cleaned up after the meal while the party went on with a showing of 'Bollywood Dream'. A lot of effort a great result and another £1100 for the fund

WALKING THE MALVERN’S

This email received from a friend of a work colleague who we have never met or even heard of is self explanatory

Dear Kelvin & Sally

After a recent conversation with Annette Smart with regard to a sponsored walk I recently completed.  Annette spoke of your involvement with Ski Lanka and the 'Wye Valley Tsunami Fund'.   Annette kindly forwarded an email from you.  I read the précis on how events unfolded whilst you were on holiday - I sat at my PC with tears rolling down my face - it's all so very tragic and how lucky you both are.

Myself, and a colleague, Lorraine Field-Richards did a sponsored walk on Friday 7 January. We walked the whole range of the Malvern Hills starting from, Chase End Hill and finishing 5 hours later at North Hill.  Annette has captured us completing the walk by digital camera!   Work colleagues from QinetiQ sponsored us to the tune of just over £900 (still collecting) which I think would be very useful for the people in Sri Lanka .   Our intention was to pass it through Oxfam but didn't really feel comfortable with this, we feel more comfortable with the money going straight to the people of Sri Lanka .  I was delighted Oxfam last week closed their Tsunami appeal.

I'm sure you would be happy to accept our donation for the, ‘Wye Valley Tsunami Fund'.   I would however request updates on how the money has been spent so I can pass it back through to colleagues who so kindly sponsored us.

I look forward to hearing from you both.

Kind regards

Lynn and Lorraine
