Sunday Afternoon it's 34 degrees C full on sun

We arriived in Colombo last evening about 19:00. Not without incident !! Our flight was scheduled to make a short stop at Male in the Maldives. We were on our final approach at about 2000 feet when a light aircraft landing in front out us managed to crash and put the airport out of action !! So we had a unexpected trip to some unpronounable airport in South West India before going on the Colombo.

We are having our two nights in the Galle Face Hotel and have a nice room (in Sally's words 'its obscene') It seems the management have remember me from previous visits and have put us in the Royal Commonwealth Suite which is about the size of a small African country. Can't wait to see what we get next time

I have had my first successful draw from the 'HSBC hole in the wall' limited to 40 000 rupees about £200. I have arranged to be taken early tomorrow morning to do some shopping. We will be heading to Galle and Unawatuna after lunch Monday. I am going to load the vehicle up with books pens pencil etc for the schools and then get some toys etc for the children. When we get to Galle we will be able to see what is most needed.

We have had a long chat will a really good guy in this hotel.

He tells us that the people on the coast are still really frighten. Within the last week a number of areas on the south west coast (where we are going) have been flooded due to exceptionally high freak waves. Mrs Doble is a little apprehensive!! We will be fine.

Hopefully you will receive this message. If you do and reply please do not add any attachments to your message (it would be nice to hear from you though) but the technology is not fully tested, at best it will cope with message but will take forever to down load big attachments. Unless of course Wales win the six nations and then somebody can send me a small picture !!!
