Sri Lanka Beach

Thursday Evening

Just a quick up date.

Have had a couple of busy days. Sorted out 100 food parcels, had the opening ceremony at the one eyed woodcarvers new shop. He gave Sally one of the few pieces he saved from the tsunami, a turtle---tears flowed.

Yesterday I went with an organisation called Project Galle. Some of the temporary camps that have been set up are not in the best of order.

The first we visited close to the site where circ 1800 people died on the train, three carriages have been left as a memorial, I talked to a few families who lost many family members, the engines was found nearly 100m from the track, many of the carriageway smashed into houses. Within minutes of us arriving we discovered a body, three months had turned it into a clean skeleton. We bagged up the remains and took them to the local medical centre. No body will never know how many souls died in Sri Lanka on the 26th December 2004.

The previous night rain had flooded the camp site two foot of water in tents. We sorted out a drainage scheme but there are so many organisation here trying to help unbelievably not a lot is happening too many troops and very few generals,

Today Sam and I have been doing more damage and Sally and his wife shopping more stuff for the school.

We are leaving some money with Sam and a list of things that he is going to finish off including replacing the ceiling and decorating a school class room, doing a food run once a month for six months to a couple of camps, take the three disabled people to Colombo three more times until their legs are sorted, (that takes a full long day), sorting out an old ladies house that is a right sate and a few other odd and sods. He is a super guy 100% trustworthy and has been fantastic. He is coming to the UK later in the year and want to thank all the people in the Wye Valley. I hope we can arrange something, he would be a star attraction.

We are leaving the south at 6 tomorrow morning and taking the train !!!1 to Colombo takes about 3 hours and cost 30 p each. Should be interesting. A days luxury in Colombo flying home arrive Saturday evening in Heathrow.

C U soon

Kelvin and Sally
